Biography

Dr. Straiker is a Senior Research Scientist at the Gill Institute for Neuroscience. His research focuses on characterizing cannabinoid signaling in the brain and the eye. Cannabinoids have been with us for thousands of years, but only recently have we begun to learn how they work in the body. In neuronal studies, Straiker leads his lab in using electrophysiology in combination with molecular biology and anatomy to investigate specific mechanisms of cannabinoid signaling. His work also focuses on cannabinoid signaling and function in the eye, relating to glaucoma, corneal healing and retinal function. He is working to develop an opiate antagonist.
