Biography
Dr. Thalluri obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Kakatiya University, India, and his Master of Science in Chemistry from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India. He completed his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, where his thesis was entitled “Development of Chemoselective and Stereoselective Strategies for Peptide Synthesis and Related Organic Transformations.” In 2015, he began his postdoctoral research with Professor Richard DiMarchi at Indiana University and, in 2020, advanced to the position of Assistant Research Scientist. He developed a breakthrough enzyme-free synthetic route for the preparation of insulin and other peptides in the insulin superfamily. His research focuses on the discovery of novel drug candidates for the treatment of metabolic diseases. The first in this series is a long-acting GLP-1/GIP co-agonist prodrug for the treatment of obesity, currently in Phase 1 clinical trials. He has also advanced a high-potency, selective GLP-1 antagonist designed for once-weekly administration to treat atypical, life-altering hypoglycemia, which is currently in Phase 2 clinical trials. His other two therapeutic candidates are in preclinical development, targeting obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic disorders.
